The project will address the limitations of the existing reporting/analytics capabilities within Mahara. Using a mixed methods approach we will undertake a scoping exercise to gather requirements to inform development of the proposed new analytics tool. Good analytics is dependent upon data generation. This project will also seek to enhance the integration with Moodle and user management within Mahara to support the collation of data for analytics purposes. This project will be conducted in collaboration with Schools/Teaching & Learning Units, Student Services, individual academics and the student body.
The aims of the proposed project are:
- To improve the analytic reporting tools available within the open source eportfolio platform Mahara to enable individual academics and institutions to evaluate learner engagement and support academic retention activities. Enhanced analytics will support institutions to monitor the self reporting of graduate attributes or employability skills across the student population.
- To provide an improved seamless integration between the open source learning management system – Moodle and Mahara. Improved integration will automatically provide students with an online collaborative space for creating assessment artefacts and reflections on their learning based on their course enrollments and any group membership within each of their courses.
- To evaluate analytics informed eportfolio use within different disciplinary teaching groups across the partner institutions.
